Adventures in Missions began working with Pastor Jesus Blanco Martinez and his church, Fe, Victoria y Amor in 2007. During the four weeks that we spent there last summer, our staff and participants joined the congregation in begging God for a piece of land on which to construct a church building.

The church had already been gathering for a year on a borrowed concrete slab enclosed by three walls where Pastor Jesus would jokingly say “the doors are always open” because there was no door. In 2007, we joined them in praying specifically for a bit of land two lots down from where they were meeting at the time.

After two years of waiting, God opened the door this May for them to move onto that very lot. We have sent teams out to work with Pastor Jesus each week through the summer of 2008. Up to this point they have labored with the church to build the frame to the building and put on half the roof.

Even after Hurricane Dolly, the frame of the church building still stands awaiting completion. God has graciously provided the lot on which it stands and protection for the structure, even through the storm.

Despite the unfinished church building, the body of believers comes together to worship God and encourage one another diligently. Fe, Victoria, y Amor is a reminder that the Church is the body of believers and not the building.

The church is filled with children, eager to play with the visiting groups. Sports Ministry and VBS thrive each week due to the flocks of kids within the community full of irrepressible energy.

The presence of this young life and the expectation of a new church creates an atmosphere of excitement. There is great work to be done in order to complete the church and great joy to be shared with the children of this community.

Pastor Jesus is brother to Pastor Hilario of Templo Peniel, another one of our ministry sites.
