     Hurricane Dolly blew through the Gateway leaving behind mostly superficial damage, and flooding all of Matamoros. Strong winds forced trees prostrate as waters rose, filling houses and stranding vehicles. Outhouses blew over, porches peeled off, and structures fell to the ground. Life on both sides of the border took a harder hit than we anticipated.

     Less than one week later, much of the water has seeped back into the ground. The city is back in motion and life is beginning to regulate itself again. Due to the poor infrastructure, some areas of Matamoros are still inaccessible with flooded streets or muddy impasses. However, our own ejido got power back days before many of the homes in south Texas that were affected by the storm.

     All three of our ministry sights are accessible by road. The structure we are building for Pastor Jesus’s church still stands. Participants now have a new chance to meet the immediate felt needs of others. This storm opens new doors for ministry, and many people are excited to step out.

     Palo Blanco: The road to Palo Blanco was impassable for a couple of days after Dolly came through. The community experienced minor flooding, some trees were blown down, and roofs were damaged. However, there were no injuries that we know of and no buildings were damaged beyond repair.

  1. Hey folks-
    You’ve been in our prayers out here in Colorado. Will you please have Khara Manji get a working email address for Pastor Hilario? The one he gave me isn’t working.
    Thanks,
    Will =)

  2. Does anyone have information about Palo Blanco? Pastor Martinez is the Pastor, we just built a VBS building during the 7/12-7/18 trip. Any word on casualties?

    Thanks
    Mark Chellis.

  3. Thanks for the updates; we here in New Jersey were all very worried for everyone in Palo Blanco and the neighboring ejidos. Everyone has been in our prayers and I am thankful that there was not too much damage. Please know that you will always be in our hearts and prayers.
    Thanks,
    Jersey girls
